In order to link user-friendliness, technical aspects and requirements for river basin management , VisDat is developing the WebGIS-based STOFFBILANZ-Viewer. It has been used since 2005 in numerous state and federal offices in Germany and by international project partners.

In practice, the systematic consideration of model areas is carried out using several, sometimes interlinked individual models (e.g. climate, water balance, groundwater, vegetation models, ...) as well as measured values of various parameters. The effort for the evaluation and provision of these increasingly extensive data sets is often underestimated. This is where the STOFFBILANZ Viewer supports specialist users. An example application is publicly accessible at .

  • Through powerful, indexable raster formats, very large data sets from models or model networks can be put into a common context and evaluated systematically, spatially and temporally.
  • Tools for data import and export, data analysis and evaluation, visualization and scenario building are grouped around the system.
  • Due to the modular structure, different views of the stored data stocks can be realized.
  • Comparisons and relationships between model results and measured values (e.g. condition measuring points, levels) can be recorded and evaluated interactively.
  • Spatial filters, time series evaluation, statistical key figures, aggregation on spatial levels (district, country, OWK, GWK, etc.) can make own GIS evaluation superfluous or supplement it.

Target audience

The STOFFBILANZ Viewer is particularly suitable as a platform for project-related working groups. It enables business users to analyze selected data statistically and spatially on their own. This enables them to develop a deeper understanding of system behaviour in their respective model areas. Current results can be discussed, plausibilised and published. Our customers also benefit from the high flexibility and good integration into existing IT landscapes.

Modular design

The STOFFBILANZ Viewer has a modular structure. This means that the system can be put together individually. New modules can be created or existing modules can be adapted for specific questions.
